Harper Macleod partner becomes first Scottish lawyer to join list of British franchising experts

David Kaye, a partner at Harper Macleod, has become the first lawyer in Scotland to be awarded the Qualified Franchise Professional (QFP) accreditation by the British Franchise Association (bfa).

He underwent a rigorous process with the bfa’s expert panel before becoming one of a select band of fewer than 100 QFPs in the UK, and only the second Scottish-based QFP.

The QFP is the only nationally recognised qualification specific to the franchising industry. It signifies a highly developed level of expertise and experience in franchising and a thorough understanding of its complexities, ethical standards and best practices.

Mr Kaye said: “I am delighted to have achieved this qualification, and to be the first lawyer in Scotland to do so is something I’m very proud of.

“It is rewarding to have the specialist insight I’ve gained through my work in franchising over a number of years recognised in this way by the bfa. Along with a number of other people, I’ve worked hard to raise the profile of franchising in Scotland and beyond, and to highlight its great potential to contribute to the country’s economic growth.”

He added: “Franchising is a wonderful business model, but it has its own complexities and we’ve worked hard to develop best practice and extend the understanding of the benefits of franchising (both for Franchisees and for Franchisors, throughout the wider business community.”
