Harper Macleod wins appointment to advise Registers of Scotland
Harper Macleod has been appointed to act for Registers of Scotland (RoS) after winning a competitive tender under the new Scottish Central Government Framework.
Registers of Scotland is the non-ministerial government department responsible for compiling and maintaining 17 public registers relating to land, property and other legal documents – including the oldest public land register in the world, the General Register of Sasines.
Under the tender, Harper Macleod will be RoS’ sole external legal adviser, providing advice in relation to a range of property and commercial services including:
Professor Lorne Crerar, chairman of Harper Macleod, said: “This is an extremely prestigious appointment for the firm and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work closely with Registers of Scotland at such a crucial point in its history.
“With projects including the completion of the Land Register by 2024 and the major digital transformation the organisation is proposing to undertake, it is an exciting time to be involved with the department.
“It’s a testament to our breadth of expertise and standing in the Scottish legal sector, not only in the public sector but across all practice areas, that we have been entrusted with this role following an extremely competitive tender process.”
Harper Macleod’s initial appointment, which follows a competition run under lot 6 of the Scottish Central Government Framework, will run for two years, with the option of a one-year extension.
It will cover an historic landmark for RoS as the Sasine Register celebrates its 400th anniversary in June 2017.
