A gang which flew drugs into a prison using a drone filmed themselves for nearly 20 minutes, a court heard yesterday.

The jury at Perth Sheriff Court saw footage of men packaging drugs recovered from the grounds of Perth PrisonThe Scotsman reports.

PC Nicholas Schembri, 38, said that the three men seemed unaware their drone’s camera was filming them.

The SD card on which the footage was recorded was recovered by police after the drone crashed into the jail.

PC Schembri identified accused Michael Martin as one of the gang and said he was unaware the camera was one as he moved the drone from room to room in the property it was being loaded in.

He added that the faces of all three men were visible and that Mr Martin was recognisable from a neck tattoo.

Mr Schembri said: “It starts with the accused lifting the drone and looking at the drone itself and then turning it round in the same room, which looks like a living room.

“During the footage you can see another two people preparing what looks like drugs.

“I don’t think they were aware the drone was actually filming at that time. I’m assuming he was looking at the drone to check if it was on, if it was functioning.”

He added another man was seen packing a Kinder egg with items, while wearing socks on his hands.

The package attached to the drone contained cannabis, cannabis resin as well as buprenorphine and etizolam, stored in the Kinder eggs, in addition to five phones and chargers.
