Home Office ‘considering proscription of Scottish neo-Nazi group’
Home Office officials are reportedly considering whether to proscribe a far-right group called Scottish Dawn, widely believed to be a direct successor to the banned neo-Nazi group National Action.
Last December, National Action became the first far-right group in Britain to be added to the list of proscribed organisations after it posted tweets celebrating the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox last summer.
According to STV News, government officials are now evaluating whether Scottish Dawn is simply a rebrand of the proscribed group.
It has portrayed itself as a Scottish nationalist grouping, but continues to use slogans and symbols closely associated with Nazism.
Det Ch Sup Gerry McLean, head of Police Scotland’s Organised Crime & Counter Terrorism Unit (OCCTU), added: “National Action is the first domestic extremist group to have been proscribed by the Home Secretary and there is no place in Scotland for these types of extreme right wing views.
“Where we identify instances of new groups or individuals who have broken away from National Action we will work with partners and our communities to target and disrupt those involved.”
