Iain Paterson tops solicitor advocate legal aid payments at £195k

Senior solicitor advocate Iain Paterson (pictured) of Paterson Bell Solicitors earned £195,000 in legal aid payments in 2015-16, new figures show.

Mr Paterson’s total payments represented a 27 per cent decline on £267,000 in 2014-15, but he retained his position as the highest-earning solicitor advocate in terms of legal aid payments.

The other top recipients in 2015-16 were:

  • Gordon Martin of Martin, Johnson & Socha Ltd Solicitors - £157,000 (-1%)

  • Brian Gilfedder of Gilfedder & McInnes Solicitors - £124,000 (+20%)

  • Ewen Roy of Adams Whyte Solicitors - £121,000 (+27%)

  • John Scott QC of Capital Defence Lawyers - £112,000 (-7%)

  • Liam Ewing of Liam Ewing Solicitor Advocate Ltd - £93,000 (+24%)

  • John Carroll of John Carroll & Co Solicitors - £92,000 (+39%)

  • Christopher Fyffe of Chris Fyffe Solicitor Advocate - £90,000 (-12%)

  • Gerard Considine of Fitzpatrick & Co Solicitors - £86,000 (+43%)

  • Shahid Latif of Craig Wood Solicitors - £81,000 (-2%)
