Ian Forrester QC to receive lifetime achievement award
A lifetime achievement award is to be presented to Ian Forrester QC, the former judge of the General Court of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
Mr Forrester will be honoured at the 2020 Scottish Legal Awards on Wednesday, 4 November, which will be broadcast live online.
The award is sponsored by The Times, and an interview of Mr Forrester by Magnus Linklater has been published by the paper.
Mr Forrester, a graduate of Glasgow University and Tulane University, Louisiana, joined the Faculty in 1972, and took silk in 1988. He enjoyed a distinguished career, during which he also became a member of the New York State bar, the bar of England and Wales, and the Brussels bar.
Among his many appointments has been Honorary Professor of European Law at Glasgow University, and as well as appearing in Scottish, English and Belgian courts, he conducted cases before the three European Community Courts and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
In 2015, Mr Forrester was appointed to the General Court in Luxembourg and served until January this year.
