In pictures… Supreme Court judicial assistants visit Edinburgh
Current and former Supreme Court judicial assistants (JAs) visited Edinburgh last week to regale practitioners with stories from the highest court in the land.
Attendees learned about their work summarising cases, deliberating with justices, the annual JA trip to the US and the immensely positive impact of the role on their careers.
Chris Maile, head of human resources at the court, also revealed that this is the first year in which justices will each be assigned their own JA, as opposed to former years in which most JAs served two justices, meaning the court will be taking on 11 new recruits.
The event was organised by the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association and was held in the SSC Library in Parliament House.
Also in attendance was a very rare Judicial Committee of the Privy Council teddy bear, reminding aspiring JAs that the deadline for applications is Wednesday 20 March 2019 and that applicants from Scotland are encouraged to apply.
