Jones Whyte leads group action against Johnson & Johnson in Scotland

Jones Whyte is leading a group action against Johnson & Johnson over claims its talcum powder causes cancer.

In recent years, a significant legal battle has emerged in the US surrounding the pharmaceutical giant’s talcum powder products.

Numerous lawsuits allege a direct link between the use of talcum powder and various forms of cancer, particularly ovarian cancer and mesothelioma.

The World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer finds talc “probably” causes cancer. Those suffering suggest that the company failed to adequately warn consumers about the potential risks associated with long-term use of their talc-based products.

In 2018, a Missouri jury awarded $4.69 billion to 22 women who claimed that Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder caused their ovarian cancer. Although these cases are in the US, they have sparked interest in Scotland regarding the safety of talc in consumer products and the potential for legal action.

The firm said: “Jones Whyte is proud to be a leader in group action claims, advocating for victims who have suffered health issues, including those linked to talcum powder.

“Our experienced legal team understand the nuances of these case types in Scotland and is well-equipped to support you if you think you have been affected.

“We recognise the importance of collective action in holding corporations accountable for their negligence.”
