Judge Iwasawa Yuji becomes ICJ president

Judge Iwasawa Yuji
Judge Iwasawa Yuji of Japan has been elected as president of the International Court of Justice.
His appointment follows Judge Nawaf Salam’s resignation from the presidency on 14 January 2025.
President Iwasawa has been a member of the court since 22 June 2018. Before joining the court he was professor of international law at the University of Tokyo and chairperson of the United Nations Human Rights Committee.
