Juror fined £400 for ‘forgetting’ to attend court

A juror has been found guilty of contempt of court and fined £400 after he told a judge he forgot to turn up at Perth Sheriff Court.

Jordan Hutchison slowed two trials at the court and inconvenienced over 70 members of the public as well as court staff.

Mr Hutchison was told to return to the court on Monday but failed to appear. He called the police once he eventually woke up and was told to get to court for 2pm.

He was then brought in to face a charge of contempt of court.

Solicitor Billy Somerville said: “Most people would find it unbelievable that you could forget from Monday to Friday what you were to do.”
