Keith Hamilton promoted to general counsel at Johnston Carmichael
Johnston Carmichael has strengthened its governance, risk and compliance function with a senior promotion and new hire.
Keith Hamilton, who joined the firm in January 2023 as legal counsel, has been promoted to general counsel. He heads up a team of three, including the firm’s recently appointed governance risk and compliance manager, Neil Godsman, and legal assistant, Catherine Hamilton.
Upon qualification, Mr Hamitlon practised commercial litigation law for three years before going in-house at drinks business Heineken. He is also convenor of one of the regulatory sub-committees at the Law Society of Scotland.
Martin Osler, Chief People Officer, Johnston Carmichael, said: “Maintaining a strong risk and governance function is crucial to ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and protecting the integrity of the firm as we progress our growth plans. Anticipating risk is among the services we offer to clients, and it is important that we take our own advice and prioritise this internally.
“Keith has been a considerable support to the business since he joined in January last year and has put in place a robust team. Johnston Carmichael has long been committed to doing the right thing for our people, clients and the community, and Keith’s leadership is helping us to deliver our objectives with a deep sense of assurance.”
Keith added: “Culturally, Johnston Carmichael is a super place to work, and it is extremely rewarding to become part of the firm’s senior leadership team.”
