Kirkcaldy sheriff hits out at CCTV delays
Sheriff James Williamson has criticised prosecutors over the number of cases in Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court which have been postponed due to problems with CCTV evidence, The Herald reports.
Sheriff Williamson was forced to postpone the trial of seven men accused of a racist attack on a Muslim takeaway owner last year because not all of the available CCTV footage was collected by prosecutors.
He told the court: “I’m getting fed up of the number of trials I’m asked to adjourn because the CCTV has not been made available.
“There’s a large organisation behind you, madam fiscal, and I would think someone would have done this.
“This is a matter that happened in November last year. It’s now December and we are at the trial diet and it has still not been made available.”
The trial was adjourned to a date in February and a pre-trial hearing was ordered for January to check on the availablity of the CCTV footage.
