Law Society raises £3,600 for Scottish Autism
Law Society of Scotland staff have shown their support for autistic people by raising £3,606 for the charity Scottish Autism.
The Alloa-based organization, the largest provider of autism-specific services in Scotland and a leading authority and advocate for good autism practice, has been the Law Society’s charity partner for the past two years.
The money was collected through a wide range of fundraising activities from staff, including running marathons, abseiling from the Forth Bridge, bake sales, quiz nights, a table tennis tournament, and a number of online initiatives.
Staff chose the charity after it was nominated by a colleague whose child had been diagnosed with autism.
Karen Wilson, income generator and partnerships lead at Scottish Autism, said: “We are delighted with the total raised from our partnership with the Law Society. The team have made a fantastic effort to come together and raise funds at a time when staff were initially working remotely.
“The funds will support the development of vital services including our online support programme, Right Click, and Click and Connect, our online groups for the autistic community.”
Law Society chief executive Diane McGiffen said: “I’d like to congratulate my colleagues who volunteered their time and creativity to support such a worthy cause. From undertaking physical challenges to bringing colleagues together during trying times, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.
“Colleagues at the Law Society have a wonderful track record of fundraising for charities and have been proud to raise funds for Scottish Autism. Some colleagues and their families and friends have first-hand experience of their work and it’s heartening to see us banding together to raise funds, while also showing support for our colleagues. Scottish Autism has been great to work with and has presented to Law Society colleagues to raise awareness of autism.”
