Law Society opens nominations for Edinburgh by-election
Solicitors in Edinburgh have been given the opportunity to join the Law Society of Scotland’s decision-making body as nominations open for a Council by-election.
The Society is looking to elect a member of Council to represent solicitors in the Edinburgh constituency, with nominations open from noon today (5 August) until 1 September.
Members of the Law Society Council are expected to help represent and support solicitors in their area, attend Council meetings, contribute to the work of the Society, and exercise influence in key decision-making for the Society.
The Society recently produced a short video featuring incumbent Council members talking about the value of the role and why solicitors should apply.
Solicitors who want to nominate themselves need to be a member of the Society working in the Edinburgh constituency and be supported by two proposers, who must be either practising or non-practising members of the Society and have business addresses in the Edinburgh constituency.
The appointment starts on 25 September 2015 and runs until the next full Edinburgh elections in 2017.
More information about the application process is available on the Law Society website.
