Law Society staff raise over £8,000 for the Stroke Association
Law Society of Scotland staff have raised a total of £8,307 for the Stroke Association over the past year.
A huge range of fundraising activity across the organisation contributed to the grand total including walking the West Highland Way, running the Edinburgh marathon relay, a table tennis tournament, pub quiz, raffles and lots of bake sales.
Jenny Selman, community and events fundraiser for Scotland at the Stroke Association, said: “We were absolutely delighted to be selected as the Law Society of Scotland’s charity of the year 2016/17. Their fantastic fundraising activities throughout the year, from running the Edinburgh Marathon Relay to walking the West Highland Way, have all helped raise vital funds for our work in Scotland.
“Stroke is the third biggest killer and the leading cause of disability in Scotland and it’s only with the generosity of supporters like this that we can continue to raise awareness of stroke, support stroke survivors and their families, and fund life-changing stroke research.”
Law Society staff voted to support the Stroke Association after their colleague Emily Malone passed away suddenly in July 2016 from a brain haemorrhage, a form of stroke.
Lorna Jack, chief executive of the Law Society of Scotland, said: “I’d like to thank all of my colleagues for volunteering their time and skills over the past year. Tragically our colleague Emily passed away suddenly last year and this is an amazing amount of money we have raised in her memory to help to aid fundamental research into stroke.”
Law Society staff vote for a new charity partner each year to focus their fundraising efforts, recently supporting Cystic Fibrosis Trust in 2016/17 and Fresh Start in 2015/16.
