Law students up for university award
Two LLB students and the GCU Law Clinic have been shortlisted for the Glasgow Caledonian University STAR Awards. The STAR Awards are an annual celebration event held by the Students’ Association to recognise and celebrate the hard work of volunteers and student groups.
Lucy Mackay, GCU Law Clinic student director, has been shortlisted for GCU Student of the Year while Simona Gesheva, the Law Clinic office manager, has been shortlisted for the Lindsay Leadership Award. Both students have worked tirelessly to lead the law clinic through the pandemic.
The law clinic itself has also been shortlisted as a Mental Health & Wellbeing Champion. The clinic took part in the Law Society of Scotland’s #PassTheBadge mental health campaign this year and also encouraged volunteers to get outdoors and raise money for the Access to Justice Foundation through sponsored walks.
Seonaid Stevenson-McCabe, lecturer in law at Glasgow Caledonian University, said: “I know both Claire McFadzean, the law clinic academic director, and I are delighted to see our students and the clinic shortlisted for the STAR Awards.
“The students have shown such resilience during a very difficult time. Their commitment and dedication, even in a pandemic, is testament to their passion for access to justice.”
The event will take place online on 15th April from 5pm, hosted by Adil Rahoo and special guests. A full list of all the award categories and shortlisted candidates can be found here.
