Lawyers set up free immigration service for Ukrainians
A free service to connect Ukrainians in need of UK immigration advice with a network of volunteer lawyers – the Ukraine Advice Project UK – has been established.
John Vassiliou, a senior associate at Shepherd and Wedderburn, is one of the immigration lawyers involved.
He said: “The project has received hundreds of requests for advice since we set it up on Monday afternoon. We have, so far, been able to match 106 cases to volunteer lawyers and we are working hard to allocate the rest.
“The overwhelming majority of people are asking for urgent advice on how to lawfully bring close family members such as adult parents, adult siblings, adult cousins, nieces, nephews, and unmarried partners to the UK after fleeing Ukraine.”
The Faculty of Advocates has given exceptional permission to all advocates to offer direct access pro bono advice to Ukrainians.
