Letter: Bad correspondence
Dear editor
Your item of 18 July headlined Scots lawyers using dating apps to cheat warned about professionalism states that solicitors have been “cautioned by the Law Society” through an article in the Journal by our pseudonymous contributor The Unloved Lawyer.
Like The Times which first picked up the story, you have fallen into the error of assuming that everything that appears in the Journal emanates from the Society. The Journal is a members’ magazine which enjoys editorial independence from the Society, and as is stated in each issue, the views expressed are those of invited contributors and not necessarily those of the Society. The Unloved Lawyer writes as an individual; the magazine always makes it clear when an article has been written by someone at the Society.
