Letter: Good sport
Dear Editor,
Olympics and the law: The life of Carl Ludwig ‘Luz’ Long was a very interesting article. I understand that Owens and Long maintained contact after the 1936 Games and that after the outbreak of WW2, Long wrote a letter to Owens to be passed on by the latter to Long’s son in the event of his not surviving the conflict.
Some years after the end of the War, Owens travelled to Germany, traced the son in question and delivered the letter. One of war’s few feel-good stories.
