Letter: No end on the Horizon
Dear Editor,
Stuart Munro’s comprehensive and informed article on the current state of the Horizon scandal lucidly illustrates the shameful position which we have reached in Scotland.
Not only is there no single strategy in place to reach a solution but contradictory positions are being pursued by Scottish government and Crown Office despite the lord advocate being the principal legal adviser to the Scottish government.
Even worse, comments from multiple sources focus on issues of degrees of guilt and the onus is still placed on subpostmasters to engage in a process which requires them to challenge the convictions and establish their right to compensation.
Worse still, we have no idea what standards are being applied in Crown Office’s internal review and the lord advocate’s statement to Holyrood appears to suggest that the test being applied is that devised originally by the solicitors for the Post Office.
