London: City law firms in 'recruitment boom'

Major law firms in the City of London are in the middle of a recruitment boom with a sharp increase in vacancies, according to a recruiter.

JMC Legal said there are currently 2,680 vacancies for lawyers, a 14 per cent rise on the previous year, with an even larger 58 per cent rise in in-house openings at non-law firm businesses, The Sunday Times reports.

Clifford Chance is said to have more openings than any other firm, with 130 vacancies, while Simmons & Simmons has around 80. PwC Legal has 93 vacancies, more than quadruple what it had last year.

Jason Connolly, chief executive of JMC Legal, said: “The optimism that law firms are showing regarding investment in hiring shows that they are positioning themselves to capitalise on this ever-changing market.”
