Lord Hodge appointed non-permanent judge of Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal
Lord Hodge has been appointed a non-permanent judge of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal.
The jurisdiction’s chief executive, Carrie Lam, accepted the recommendation to appoint Lord Hodge, Deputy President of the UK Supreme Court, as a non-permanent judge from another common law jurisdiction.
His appointment will be confirmed after the Legislative Council endorses the independent Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission’s recommendation.
The recommendation follows the resignation of Australian judge James Spigelman, a former chief justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, over concerns of the content of the national security law in Hong Kong.
