Lord Menzies to retire
Lord Menzies is to retire after 20 years on the bench.
He was appointed a judge of the Supreme Courts in 2001 and was appointed to the Inner House in February 2012.
He is a graduate of the University of Oxford (MA, Wadham College) and the University of Edinburgh (LLB). He was admitted to Faculty in 1978 and was standing junior counsel to the Admiralty from 1984 to 1991. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1991.
Lord Menzies served as a temporary sheriff from 1996 to 1997. He was chairman of the Scottish Planning, Local Government and Environmental Bar Group from 1997 to 2001. He was a Faculty ADR provider and was a member of Faculty Council from 1997 to 2001. He served as an advocate depute from January 1998 to December 2000 and as Home Advocate Depute from September 1998 to December 2000.
