MacRoberts’ John McGovern crowned lawyer of the year
Unlike most other corporate criminal units, Mr McGovern’s unit conducts its own advocacy and he is a solicitor advocate with rights of audience in the High Court of Justiciary, the Court of Criminal Appeal and the Supreme Court. He is also a part-time tutor in advanced criminal law at the University of Glasgow.
On presenting the award, the judging panel, chaired by Shonaig Macpherson, noted that John “has had a terrific year establishing a new team and building an excellent reputation in the market while making very good progress for clients in a sensitive area of work”.
MacRoberts managing partner, John Macmillan, said: “John joined the firm in early 2015 and has made a significant impact across many areas of the business. His drive, determination and professionalism shine through in everything he does and we are absolutely delighted that he has been chosen as a worthy recipient of Lawyer of the Year. On behalf of all the partners and staff at MacRoberts, we would like to congratulate John on this tremendous achievement”.
On winning the award, Mr McGovern said: “This year has been truly remarkable and I have been fortunate to work with fantastic clients and colleagues. Being presented with this award is testament to both the firm and my team and I am honoured to receive it”.
