Man abused by monks at Fife school awarded £300,000
A man who was beaten and raped by monks as a child has been given more than £300,000, The Times reports.
Victim T was molested at St Ninian’s School in Falkland, Fife, about 40 years ago. He was the victim of Brother Farrell, who was jailed in 2016 and Brother Ryan, who is now dead.
The Congregation of Christian Brothers attempted to “buy off” Victim T with £82,000 last year but a sheriff this week ordered them to pay almost four times that sum in damages.
Victim T said he “broke down” when he heard the judgment.
He said: “Those monsters robbed me of a childhood, a living and the ability to simply connect with other people. I now hope to move on with my life and hope other victims out there find justice as well.”
His lawyer, Kim Leslie, partner at Digby Brown Solicitors, said: “I have the utmost respect for our client for finding the strength to step forward — not just to help convict Brother Farrell but hold the Christian Brothers accountable as an entity.”
