Man guilty of violent and sexual abuse jailed for nine years

A man who carried out a campaign of violent and sexual offending lasting more than two decades has been jailed.

Brian McGlashan, from Perth, was found guilty of eight charges following a trial at the High Court in Dundee on June 5.

The 57-year-old targeted his three victims between 1996 and 2019 at addresses in the Perthshire area.

During one attack, McGlashan pushed one victim, held her over the water at the River Tay and uttered threats at her. The woman was also left severely injured and permanently disfigured after McGlashan assaulted her.

He isolated a second woman from her friends, threatened to have her deported, damaged property and broke a bathroom door lock during the abuse. McGlashan was convicted of two voyeurism charges after watching two of his victims in a state of undress.

The abuser was also found guilty of two rape charges.

At the High Court in Paisley McGlashan was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment with a further four years on licence.

His name has been added to the sex offenders register indefinitely. A 15-year non-harassment order, banning him from contacting or attempting to contact one victim, was granted.

Procurator fiscal for High Court sexual offending, Katrina Parkes, said: “Brian McGlashan is a serial abuser who has inflicted lasting trauma through his controlling, violent and sexually depraved behaviour.

“It is thanks to the bravery of his victims coming forward and speaking to the authorities that prosecutors were able to secure this conviction. McGlashan will now face the consequences of his actions which I hope brings some comfort to those affected by his abuse.”
