Man who killed grandparents to be detained at Carstairs
A 21-year-old man has admitted killing his grandparents in a knife attack.
Tobyn Salvatore appeared at the High Court in Glasgow after pleading guilty to a charge of culpable homicide due to diminished responsibility.
He carried out the attack on Denis and Mary Fell, both 73, of Livingston, West Lothian, on Boxing Day, 2021.
Salvatore has been ordered to be detained without limit of time at the State Hospital in Carstairs under compulsion and restriction orders.
Moira Orr, who leads on homicide and major crime for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, said: “This was a brutal and senseless attack which has had a devastating impact on an entire family and the local community.
“Denis and Mary Fell were much loved by their family, friends and neighbours and their deaths have left an enormous hole in the lives of many others. This has been a harrowing and tragic case for all concerned.
“Our thoughts are with all those who have suffered hurt and pain as a consequence of this terrible crime.”
