Martin Lavery
Well-known defence solicitor Martin Lavery has died aged 60. Mr Lavery graduated LLB (Hons) from Glasgow University in 1977. He served his apprenticeship with Wm McGlynn and Co, Glasgow and after periods in Moffat and Coatbridge he entered into partnership with his good friend Vinny Smith now Sheriff Smith in 1982. At one time Lavery Smith and Co had three offices throughout Glasgow.
He excelled as a pleader in the criminal courts and was highly regarded by sheriffs, fiscals and defence agents throughout the West of Scotland as a man of integrity, forever courteous and respectful. He will be missed by many, especially his Glasgow Bar Association colleagues.
Mr Lavery developed oesophageal cancer towards the end of last year. He died on 22 October 2016 and is survived by his wife Vicky and their three sons Christopher, Martin and Paul. Christopher and Martin have followed their dad into the law.
His funeral will be held on Monday 31st October at St Aloysius Church, Rose Street, Glasgow. His body will be received at 9.45 am with a Funeral Mass at 10am. (There will be no service the evening before).
