Miller Hendry are top fundraisers for Will Aid in Scotland
Tayside solicitors and estate agents Miller Hendry have topped the fundraising league for Scotland, raising £13,298 during their 2014 Will Aidcampaign.
The law firm raised the money for the group of Will Aid charities by writing over 100 wills for clients in the local area, raising more money than any other solicitors in Scotland, while also ranking as third best fundraisers in the UK.
Miller Hendry have taken part in Will Aid every year since 2000 and, in that time, have raised £67,388 – more money than any other legal firm in Scotland.
Solicitors at Miller Hendry offered Will Aid clients a basic will and asked them to make a donation rather than paying the firm’s standard fees.
The money raised is shared between ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, SCIAF, Sightsavers andTrocaire.
The money raised is now making a difference to the lives of thousands of people around the world, with the help and support of the Will Aid charities.
Shirley Marsland, campaign manager for Will Aid said: “It has been another brilliant fundraising effort by Miller Hendry and all of the Will Aid charities are so grateful to the staff involved in this effort.
“They have been one of our top performers nationwide for a number of years and their fundraising has made a difference to so many people.
“By giving up their time every November for Will Aid, Miller Hendry has helped people to work their way out of poverty and towards a secure future for them and their families.
“Gifts in Wills have also helped to save many lives and brought real hope to people in desperate circumstances.
“When people take the opportunity to leave a legacy in their Will, they’re helping us to build a better world.”
Ernie Boath, partner and head of the firm’s private client department, added: “Everyone at Miller Hendry is very passionate about raising money for all these fantastic charities through Will Aid and we are very proud of the amount we have raised over the years.
“During our 2014 fundraising campaign we prepared more than 100 wills for both existing and new clients.
“Our main focus has always been to raise as much money for charity as we can. To be the top performing legal firm in Scotland again is an added bonus.”
Will Aid also gives many people that much needed impetus to make a will. Mr Boath added: “People are often unaware of the difficulties they can be leaving behind for loved ones if something were to happen to them.
“Wills give people peace of mind that their families are taken care of and it is the only way to put you in control of your estate after death.
“Will Aid also allowed people to donate money to charity which is all the more reason to consider making that all-important will.
“The team here at Miller Hendry will certainly be fundraising again in 2015.”
