Mock Court Project on Aberdeen and Inverness tour
An educational initiative teaching school pupils oral advocacy skills is looking for legal tutors.
The School Mock Court Case Project runs an educational curriculum through an inter-school competition that sees school children argue a mock trial in a real court in front of a real sheriff.
The current academic year saw some 80 schools with circa 3,000 pupils register for the project.
While it has primarily worked in the South of Scotland, it now has schools registering from both Aberdeen and Inverness, has interest from Orkney schools and will be extending into the North of Scotland with both its Juniors and Seniors projects.
The project relies on volunteer solicitors, paralegals and advocates to tutor the school children on how to compile legal documents as well as how to act in court. The charity’s chairman, Gerald Murphy, and advocate Jamie Gardiner will be traveling to Inverness and Aberdeen on May 1st.
They will be meeting with local law firms, solicitors and schools to introduce next year’s project which starts in August.
If individuals or firms are interested in attending the meetings, please RSVP to jbamford@mockcourt.org.uk.
