Networking group launched to help young professionals in construction
Maclay Murray and Spens LLP (MMS), BAM Construction and 3DReid have launched Young Professionals in Construction (YPiC), a cross-industry networking group for the construction and engineering sector.
Linzi Coates-Hedalen and Susan Currie, both solicitors in the construction and engineering practice at MMS, teamed up with contacts in other areas after realising that there was a lack of forums for young professionals to meet and build the relationships needed to take their career to the next level.
Ms Coates-Hedalen said: “Susan and I realised that there were very few forums for young professionals to network in our industry, so we decided to make one available.
“We approached BAM Construction and 3DReid to partner with MMS and create an independent body that will provide a relaxed and effective means for young professionals in our industry to meet and network with each other.
“We hope YPiC will help bolster good working relationships, encourage long term professional connections and allow people to better understand the roles of others working in different areas of their industry.
“This is particularly valuable for young professionals as they seek to lay the foundations for a successful career in the construction and engineering sector.”
The collaboration between MMS, BAM Construction and 3DReid, which each represent a different segment of the construction industry, is believed to be the first of its kind in Scotland.
Each firm will reach out to its own network of contacts to bring together young professionals from across the industry, including employers, contractors, sub-contractors and specialist contractors, members of the design team, surveyors, architects and contract administrators.
YPiC is now open to new members and the first event will be held on Wednesday 30 September in Edinburgh.
