New Arnot Manderson member Megan Davidson makes a splash
Since calling to the Scottish bar in June of this year Megan Davidson has been making a splash in the legal world. Upon completion of her devilling period, Ms Davidson was called to the bar and was one of five new advocates to join Arnot Manderson Advocates.
Since then the Fife resident has appeared in a number of high profile cases in both the criminal and civil courts across Scotland.
Her case load sees her cover complex and sensitive matters in her specialist areas of child law, criminal law and family law where she has a particular interest in human rights. She was the instructing solicitor in the United Kingdom Supreme Court case of ABC (Appellant) v Principal Reporter and another (Respondents) (Scotland) In the matter of XY (Appellant) (Scotland) where she worked with fellow Arnot Manderson advocate Nicola Gilchrist, who was later to act as Ms Davidson’s devilmistress. She has earned a well-deserved reputation for excellence and has been instructed alongside some of Scotland’s most prominent KCs.
What her instructing solicitors may not know is that away from the law she has also been making waves having been a volunteer, sea-going crew member for Kinghorn RNLI lifeboat for 14 years and currently fulfils the role of trainee-helm. Fans of the BBC TV series Saving Lives at Sea will have seen Ms Davidson and her crew mates effecting the dramatic rescue of a paddleboarder and kayaker who had gotten into difficulty in the Firth of Forth just off Edinburgh’s Portobello Beach.
The rescue turned out not to be all that it seemed and if you would like to see the outcome then Series 7 episode 9 can be found on the BBC iPlayer here. Ms Davidson, who followed her mother Liz in to the RNLI service at Kinghorn, said: “Volunteering for the RNLI charity is a real privilege. Our station at Kinghorn is one of Scotland’s busiest and we attend nearly 100 taskings each year looking after much of the Fife, Edinburgh, and Lothian coastline. We attend a variety of callouts and we are presented with many different scenarios when our pagers sound.”
Arnot Manderson practice manager, Andrew Sutherland, said: “We are always happy to welcome advocates to the stable who have a rounded background with many strings to their bows. It’s clear that besides a first class legal mind Megan brings a range of other skills and I’m certain her ability to think on her feet in a fast paced environment will continue to serve her clients well and just as importantly will help keep those in distress in the Firth of Forth safe as well.”
