New BBC series to look at women’s prisons

A new series provides a rare look into two of Scotland’s prisons which house women – HMP and YOI Grampian in Peterhead which has 50 prisoners and HMP & YOI Stirling which operates with up to 117 prisoners.
With wide access to both prisons which offers insights into daily prison life, work assignments, and family visits, Jailed: Women in Prison hears from both prisoners and staff and presents the day-to-day realities of life behind bars.
This episode follows three women at different stages of their prison sentences. Terri, a young mother, talks about the impact of being separated from her children. Despite her efforts to rehabilitate, a violent altercation threatens her progress.
Amy, on remand and awaiting sentencing, faces the reality of prison life while reflecting on a troubled past and fractured family relationships. Tracy, a great-grandmother, and former addict, hopes for an early release in time for Christmas, and is determined to break the cycle of reoffending.
All episodes of Jailed: Women in Prison will be available on iPlayer from 18 March.
