New managing partner for Marks & Clerk in Edinburgh

Marks & Clerk in Scotland has appointed Paul Chapman as the new managing partner of its Edinburgh office.

A chartered and European patent attorney, Mr Chapman has spent over 20 years advising clients on their intellectual property needs and has been a partner at the business for 14 years.

His client list includes universities, SMEs and large multinational companies.

He has particular expertise in biotechnology, chemistry and pharmaceuticals and is also chair of Marks & Clerk’s life sciences committee.

His predecessor, Campbell Newell, who has been working in the IP profession for over 26 years, will continue to be responsible for the firm’s trade mark practice across Scotland, managing the intellectual property portfolios of some of Scotland’s best known brands.

He will also become more actively involved in the development and growth of the UK wide Trade Mark Group.

Meanwhile, two new appointments have been made in the company’s Glasgow office.

Alistair Robertson joins as an assistant, having spent 14 years in the semiconductor industry.

He has a first class MEng in Electronics & Electrical Engineering from the University of Glasgow and is a chartered engineer.

Iain Robertson joins as a trainee patent attorney.

He is currently completing a PhD at the University of St Andrews, having obtained an MSci in Materials Science from the institution in 2011.
