New starter Sarah having a ball at Slater and Gordon
Travelling the country is no problem for Scottish-borders born solicitor and keen hill runner Sarah McWhirter.
The clinical negligence specialist recently joined the team at Slater and Gordon in Edinburgh and says she’s enjoying meeting clients in all corners of Scotland.
In her last role, Ms McWhirter, also an avid cyclist and hiker, worked for corporate clients and insurers and rarely got to meet pursuers.
Now, due to the personal nature of much of her work, she spends a great deal of her time outside the office visiting clients who often aren’t well enough to travel.
She said: “I find what I do so worthwhile. You have clients who have placed absolute faith in somebody to care for them and something happens through no fault of their own that has devastating consequences. To be able to help these people seek justice and access care means a lot to me.
“As well as making a difference in individual client’s lives, I also try to influence wider changes in practice where needed, to help prevent future instances of negligence.”
Ms McWhirter is heading up the clinical negligence team in the city and has kicked off her arrival by getting involved with a charity ball.
Slater and Gordon is sponsoring the drinks reception at the Emerald Ball to help raise funds for Bobath Scotland, an organisation that offers help and support to children and adults living with cerebral palsy.
Ms McWhirter added: “I undertake work in all areas of clinical negligence, but helping children born with disabilities as a result of negligence is something I am particularly passionate about.
“I’m currently representing a number of clients in cerebral palsy cases and am thrilled to be able to support the invaluable work Bobath Scotland do to help both the people living with this condition and their families.”
