New support category as Lawscot Foundation applications open for 2024
The Lawscot Foundation has opened this year’s application window to endow new scholarships, including a new category so the charity can provide support to more aspiring lawyers from less-advantaged backgrounds.
Pupils who meet the eligibility criteria, including having an offer to begin a Scots law LLB course later this year, are invited to apply on the Foundation’s website by 5pm on Friday, 21 June 2024.
This year for the first time a second tier of scholarships will also be available, with scholars chosen in this new category to be matched with a mentor and provided with career development opportunities.
The charity’s longstanding scholarship also remains available, combining financial support through an annual bursary payment with mentoring, networking and work experience opportunities.
Lawscot Foundation spokesperson Milly Berndes-Cade said: “The scholarship applications we receive underline why our charity exists, coming from talented young people who are determined to overcome adversity. To any aspiring lawyer who’s eligible, this is an amazing opportunity to pursue your career goals.
“Every year we receive more deserving applications than we’re able to provide bursary scholarships for, so we’re so pleased to be able to introduce a new scholarship category in 2024 to help support even more talented students.
“Law students from less-advantaged backgrounds often don’t have personal connections to solicitors who can provide advice and support. Our mentoring programme provides invaluable help to guide and inspire students to make the step from studying to working in law.”
