No cap on Thorntons’ fundraising for Action for Brain Injury
Thorntons Solicitors recently took part in Hats for Headway, a fancy dress fundraiser in aid of Action for Brain Injury – and raised more than £300.
Colleagues from the firm wore baseball caps, berets, beanies and sunhats to work, with proceeds raised donated to the Tayside branch of charity Headway.
The fundraiser was spearheaded at Thorntons by partner and personal injury solicitor Caroline Kelly in Dundee, a former chair of Headway Tayside.
She said: “In my line of work, I regularly come across people who have suffered a brain injury through no fault of their own and are adjusting to living their life after brain injury.
“Seeing what survivors go through, where they live with what is often called a hidden disability – because they may have no physical problems – I wanted to find other ways to provide them with support aside from helping them get the compensation they deserve.
“This led me to Headway and specifically Headway Tayside, the local Headway group where I was a committee member, then secretary and finally Chair until March 2017.”
Headway is a UK-wide charity with a large network of groups and branches across the country which work to provide support, services and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers, as well as to professionals in the health and legal field.
It has introduced the Brain Injury Identity Card to help survivors raise awareness of the problems they may suffer because of their brain injury, some of which can lead people to think they are drunk or under the influence of drugs.
