Nominations open for Aberdeenshire solicitors to join Law Society Council
Nominations are now open for solicitors hoping to join the Law Society of Scotland’s decision-making body, to represent members in the Aberdeen, Banff, Peterhead and Stonehaven constituency.
The North East seat has become vacant following Michael Kusznir standing down after two years on the society’s Council.
Being a member of the Law Society Council provides an opportunity to influence key decisions, contribute to the work of the society and help to represent and support local solicitors.
Murray Etherington, president of the Law Society of Scotland, said: “I became a Council member for the Angus and Dundee constituency in 2015. It has been a challenging but also hugely rewarding experience and it is a real privilege to represent solicitors in my constituency.
“I would strongly encourage eligible members to submit a nomination. It is a fantastic experience for any solicitor who wants to engage in issues of significance to the legal profession and wider civic Scotland, and help shape the future of the legal profession. As a Council member it provides a platform to make your voice heard and represent your fellow members when key decisions are being made.
“Having worked alongside Michael during his time on Council, I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all his valuable contributions and to wish him all the best in his new endeavours.”
He added: “This is an exciting time for the Law Society, and a great opportunity to be involved in a range of important issues, including legal services regulation, criminal justice reform and legal aid as well as the development of a new five-year strategy for the Society itself.”
Nominations for this election are open until 12 noon, Thursday 23 June 2022.
