Pinsent Masons pilots burnout alerts for overworked lawyers

Pinsent Masons is piloting burnout alerts for overworked staff after the death of a partner last year.

The firm’s new time-tracking system will let bosses know when employees have been consistently working long hours.

It is part of a series of changes being made to help lawyers deal with intense workloads and to reduce stress following the death of lawyer Vanessa Ford last year.

In February, the coroner ruled that Ms Ford had been struck by a train after consuming “a significant amount of alcohol while undergoing an acute mental health crisis”.

The inquest was told she had been working 18-hour days on the sale of Everton FC in the months leading up to her death last September.

A spokesman said: “It is still early days, but using technology like this will help increase our visibility of colleague workloads, the time being spent on client work and those people who have capacity and can help busy teams.”
