Plans for new global judicial support network

Judges from the UK, the US and around the world are planning to establish a new global judicial support network.

Her Honour Judge Kalyani Kaul KC, a circuit judge in England and Wales who unsuccessfully sued the UK government over the handling of complaints she made against senior judges, is acting chair of the new body, according to the English Law Society Gazette.

She told the annual meeting of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors’ Association yesterday that the new network would be announced shortly.

Judges from Tonga, the US, Uganda, Bangladesh, Nauru, Sri Lanka, and England and Wales are said to be involved.

Judge Kaul said: “I call it ‘judges without borders’. We hope this will support the UN Declarations, the Bangalore and Nauru principles, and result in a stronger, healthier, fairer and safer judiciary internationally, in the knowledge that the eyes of other jurisdictions are open and watching.”
