Police officers in botched Rangers probe accused of perjury
Police officers who oversaw the botched investigation into the takeover of Rangers FC are facing allegations of perjury and that they attempted to pervert the course of justice, The Times reports.
David Grier, 61, a business consultant with Duff & Phelps, lost his malicious prosecution case in January. Lord Tyre, in the Outer House, had ruled that, while he had not been prosecuted maliciously, the police investigation into him was riven with “incompetence” and a “lack of professionalism”.
Mr Grier has now complained about detective chief inspector Jim Robertson and his deputy, detective chief inspector Jacqueline O’Neill – accusing them of criminal conduct.
He claims that DCI Robertson “failed to act with honesty and integrity”, “abused his power and authority”, “carried out acts which were manifestly unlawful” and “acted in a manner which discredited the police service”.
The pair, he alleged, provided false written and oral evidence to the Court of Session and “thereby did commit perjury”.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We have received complaints and they will be dealt with in line with our complaints handling process.”
