Hundreds of people arrested over the weekend were detained for longer than usual as prosecutors completed the necessary paperwork by hand.

The electronic system is intended to allow depute fiscals to access case files via an app called Case Management in Court (CMIC).

More than 200 iPad Pros have been given to depute fiscals in sheriff courts across Scotland – a move COPFS bosses hailed as a “significant advancement in the way cases are prosecuted in Scotland”. 

A Crown Office spokesman said: “Due to a power outage at a data centre in Glasgow, a number of IT systems were made unavailable. The majority of these are now back online and we are working to minimise disruption.”
