Record-breaking £168k raised for charity at business event
A black-tie quiz fundraiser held in Glasgow last month raised an incredible £168,000 for charity.
Winners of the Glasgow Brain Game 2017, Pinsent Masons LLP, joined Bill Scott, chair, to announce the sum raised for Marie Curie by Scotland’s business community.
This year’s event which included sponsors United Airlines saw 43 businesses go head to head to be named Scotland’s brainiest business, with Pinsent Masons claiming the crown.
Speaking about his team’s win, Barry McCaig, partner and head of Pinsents’ Glasgow office, said: “We were delighted to support Marie Curie by taking part in the Brain Game. Guests at the table were highly competitive and thrilled to be winners on the night.”
Mr Scott, chair of the Marie Curie Hospice, Glasgow, Fundraising Development Board, commented: “The Glasgow Brain Game has become one of the most attractive fixtures in the corporate event calendar and this year’s didn’t disappoint! The top guest list raised a truly staggering amount for Marie Curie - the money will be very well spent on supporting patients and families through terminal illness.
“Pinsent Masons are to be congratulated for their sterling performance against a highly competitive audience! Believe it or not, plans are already in motion for the 2018 event as demand is higher than ever for tables!”
Catherine Maclean, Marie Curie special events manager, added: “We’re so grateful to Scotland’s businesses for raising this staggering total which is the equivalent of funding nearly a month of the running costs of our Glasgow hospice.
“It’s an incredible achievement that demonstrates the tremendous level of support for Marie Curie. We have a super guest list and our celebrity hosts love this evening.”
