Renowned international libel lawyer Paul Tweed to speak to Edinburgh lawyers

Paul Tweed, an international libel lawyer to the rich and famous, is to speak in Edinburgh at a free event organised by the SSC Society at Parliament House on Tuesday 18 March at 6.00pm. It is a free event that qualifies for at least one hour’s CPD and is open to all lawyers.

Paul’s client list includes British royalty and Hollywood celebrities. (He advised Prince Andrew not to do that interview!) From offices in Belfast, London and Dublin he represents the rich and famous in their battles with the media. He has fought cases for Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Sylvester Stallone, Louis Walsh, Liam Neeson, Jennifer Lopez, Ashton Kutcher and many others. He has taken on not only the mainstream media but is also increasingly engaging in legal battles with digital tech giants such as X, Google and Facebook who seek to avoid responsibility for articles published on their platforms.

Paul will tell how he grew his business from a Belfast firm to become an international practice taking on the tabloids and will discuss the new challenges facing libel lawyers dealing with the technology giants who do not regard themselves as bound by the rules applied to publishers.

He is the author of From Holywood to Hollywood: My Life as an International Libel Lawyer to the Rich and Famous.

The talk will last about an hour with the opportunity for questions and a glass of wine afterwards.

Readers can reserve their place on Eventbrite here.
