A graduate of the University of Glasgow, she obtained her LLB in 1972. She moved to Edinburgh around 1974 and joined Keir Moodie, Solicitors, becoming a partner in that firm for several years. 

In 1986, she established her own firm as a sole practitioner, Forrester Ogilvie & Co. Her main areas of practice were conveyancing and wills and executries. She became a Writer to the Signet on 9 May 2001.

Now, after 34 successful years, she is winding up her practice and retiring.
