Retiral of depute fiscal Stuart Richardson
Over 50 guests gathered at The Royal George Hotel Perth on Saturday night to mark the retirement of respected fiscal Stuart Richardson.
Sheriffs from Perth and Dundee, colleagues from Tayside, fellow fiscals, staff from his office and the Sheriff Court gathered to say their fond farewells.
Mr Richardson was his usual humorous self – welcoming and self-effacing, wondering what all the fuss was about.
Perth solicitor John McLaughlin paid tribute to Mr Richardson. He said: “The fiscal service in particular and those involved in the criminal court system will sorely miss Stuart. In an age where political correctness sometimes outweighs justice and equity, he was a breath of fresh air, making sensible and proportionate decisions.
“He recognised the dross and made the right decision. He is a man of great integrity and sound judgement.”
He added: “ I have known Stuart since 1981, when we worked as a fiscals in Glasgow. He has not changed – he is still the life and soul of the party with a gift for mimicry. It was a great night which I really enjoyed.
“We all wish him a happy and restful retirement, if Liz will let him!”
