Role of EU law in Scottish courts after Brexit under the spotlight at prestigious conference

Whatever type of ‘Brexit’ is eventually agreed between the UK and the EU, legislation made by the EU and the case law of the European Court of Justice is likely to be important for Scottish courts for many years in the future.
The way that EU law influences UK courts is likely to change however. The upcoming major conference, sponsored by Scottish Legal News, on ‘Brexit and Scotland: implications for law and government’ will have a major focus on what that change will mean. Two of the conference speakers will be looking at this question in detail.
Advocate Peter Sellar (pictured above) will be speaking about the current influence of EU law on UK law and how that may change after Brexit. Peter Sellar is one of the leading European law practitioners at the Scottish bar, and is secretary of the Advocates’ Group on European Law.
Kenneth Campbell QC will be examining the effect of Brexit on Scottish courts and legal procedure, which is likely to be considerable. Kenneth Campbell has appeared in many cases with an EU law dimension, and is also one of Scotland’s most prolific practitioners on human rights issues.
