Rugby player guilty of numerous sexual offences faces life sentence
A rugby player given probation for attempted rape now faces a life sentence after he was convicted of raping two other women at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Jamie Rudling, 27, was given three years’ probation in March 2010 after he tried to have sex with two sleeping women without their consent.
He was also jailed for 28 months by Sheriff Norman MacFadyen at Ayr Sheriff Court in November 2011 after he persuaded two teenage girls to expose themselves over a webcam to him. He had also arranged to meet with one for sex at Braehead Shopping Centre in Renfrewshire.
A jury has now found him guilty of repeatedly raping a young woman between 2003 and 2011.
He began raping her when she was ten years old at an address in Argyll.
In addition, he was convicted of raping another woman, 22, in October 2014 in Argyll.
Lord Uist deferred sentencing for risk assessment reports and described Mr Rudling’s behaviour as “serious”.
He added: “This is a man who has already been convicted in the High Court of attempting to rape another woman and he has been convicted of other sexual offences.
“He has now been convicted of the repeated rape of a woman and the rape of another woman. It is extremely serious.
“I have to see how dangerous he is.”
In September 2007 Mr Rudling was given community service as well as three years’ probation for attempted rape of a woman in Dunoon.
The High Court in Perth heard that the woman had gone to bed while her boyfriend and Mr Rudling drank in another room.
He later entered her room while she slept and attempted to rape her.
Lady Clark of Calton gave him probation in that case after he “expressed remorse and recognised the effect”.
In March 2011 he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court and was jailed for grooming two girls, both 14, who lived in Prestwick.
Lord Uist deferred sentence until January 12.
