SCBA hosts Making A Murderer attorney in ‘fantastic event’
A great event and a pleasure to have been part of it – that was the verdict of US attorney Jerome Buting who faced an audience in Glasgow at an event staged by the Scottish Criminal Bar Association.
His sentiments were echoed by those in the Trades Hall, which had the House Full signs posted for “An Evening with Jerome Buting”.
Typical of the comments were “fantastic event”, “great night”, “really enjoyed it” and “a superb and entertaining evening”. Mr Buting features in the hit documentary television series, Making a Murderer.
He said: “It has been a pleasure having this opportunity to speak to the lawyers of Scotland, and field their questions.
“Seeing the many similarities, and the few differences, between our practices has been eye-opening.
“Thanks to the SCBA, and (committee member) Wendy Hay in particular, for hosting and organising this great event.”
Thomas Ross, SCBA president, said: “The fact that Jerry drew more than 2,000 paying customers to the London Palladium on Sunday evening and is now on his way to the Sydney Opera House for a similar event, shows the enduring interest in the issues raised in the Making a Murderer programme.
“It also underlines what a hugely ambitious project it was for the SCBA to take on. The fact that it passed off successfully is almost entirely due to the incredible efforts of our CPD Convenor Wendy Hay.
“Thanks to Lord Bonomy, the Dean of Faculty and the Vice-Dean for their support, and for everybody who travelled to Glasgow city centre on a Tuesday evening to make the event such a triumph for the association.”
