Scottish Arbitration Centre supports Energy Arbitration Conference in London
The Scottish Arbitration Centre has supported the London Centre for International Law Practice 2nd Annual Conference on Energy Arbitration and Dispute Resolution in the Middle East and Africa, held in London last week. Brandon Malone, chairman of the board of the centre, devised and directed the programme of the prestigious international event.
The conference focused on challenges and opportunities for energy arbitration over the next decade, and highlighted the current geopolitical and macroeconomic issues affecting the energy industry with a regional focus on Africa and the Middle East.
In addition to the centre, the conference was supported by a number of organisations including the International Energy Charter, and the International Centre for Energy Arbitration. It has conducted research into energy arbitration with a view to strengthening Scotland as a seat of arbitration for energy disputes and establishing a set of bespoke energy arbitration rules.
Mr Malone said: “This was a fantastic conference, building on the success of the inaugural conference last year. The unique scope and structure of the conference attracted delegates from across industry, academia, the legal sector, government, and the diplomatic sphere, including His Excellency, the High Commissioner of Cyprus.
“The highly interactive sessions generated some fascinating debate. We look forward to continuing our work at the Centre and with the ICEA to create more opportunities in energy dispute resolution with Scotland as the seat.”
